The editor of Kommersant magazine called Mikhailov's novel "Ravinagar" "more a magical object than a work of art". In October 2022, Mikhailov's directorial film debut was released — the film "A Fairy Tale for the Old", which Roman shot together with actor Fyodor Lavrov; both of them played the main roles in the film. For the first time, the painting was shown as part of the Spirit of Fire festival, where it received a prize. According to Mikhailov, "A Fairy Tale for the Old" is "an esoteric treatise or just a fairy tale". Almost simultaneously, the shooting of another picture "October Vacation" was completed. "Let's Go to Macau With You" is his fourth film, released in 2023.
