여배우가 되고 싶은 페기는 대륙을 횡단해 할리우드로 간다. 그러나 기회는 좀처럼 주어지지 않고, 페기는 작은 스튜디오의 코미디언 빌리를 만나 슬랩스틱 코미디쇼에 출연한다. 얼마 후, 마침내 유명 제작사에서 러브콜을 보내자 그녀는 하루 아침에 빌리의 곁을 떠난다. 무성영화시대가 저물어가는 할리우드를 향한 낙천적인 시선이 인상적인 작품. 주인공 페기는 마리온 데이비스가 맡았던 캐릭터 중 최고로 손꼽히며, 찰리 채플린, 존 길버트 등이 카메오로 출연하기도 했다.
